One of the primary objectives of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is to assist the United States Coast Guard in promoting Recreational Boating Safety. Our Boating Safety Classes are designed to help the inexperienced, as well as the seasoned boater have many safe and exciting boating seasons. All of our courses are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the State of Florida. Our classes also meet state mandatory education requirements. Additionally, classes are conducted by Coast Guard certified instructors. 2009 Boating Safety Programs are currently scheduled on the following SATURDAYS: June 13, 2009 August 8, 2009 October 10, 2009 They are held at the Marion County Sheriff's Branch Office Conference Room located just north of Belleview on U.S. Highway 441/27 at the intersection of SE 80th Street. Class will begin at 8am and continue until 4pm. Please be there at 7:45am if you do not preregister. All materials will be included in the cost of the Program, which will be $30.00 per participant. At the end of the Program and successful completion of a test, a certificate and I.D. card will be issued by the USCG Auxiliary, and an ID card from the State of Florida. This program is for all boaters and meets the mandatory requirement for the State of Florida. Florida Law requires that anyone 21 years or age or under, prior to operating a vessel, including a PWC, powered by 10 horsepower or more, pass a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators approved boater safety course, have in his/her possession, photographic I.D. and a boater safety I.D. card, issued by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.

In addition to our traditional classroom format we offer a unique home study course. Using your PC you can study in the privacy of your home, and at your own pace. After completing your home study, a Coast Guard Auxiliary Instructor will meet with you, answer any questions you may have and administer a written examination. Upon successful completion of the examination, you will receive a U.S. Coast Guard Certificate of Course Completion and ID card. Your name will be sent to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission in Tallahassee who will also send you a State ID Boating Card. To find out more about our Recreational Boating Safety Programs please contact: Andy Render (352) 753-3096 email: AJRsMail@aol.com FLORIDA BOATING ID REQUIRED In the State of Florida, all persons 21 years of age or younger are required to have a Boating ID card showing completion of a boating class approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators to operate a motorized vessel including PWC's. Boat operators who are required to have completed a boating course or exam must carry on board their ID Card issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and a photographic ID card. PERSONAL WATER CRAFT No one under 14 years of age may operate any Personsal Water Craft (PWC) on Florida waters at any time, even if such person possesses a Boating Safety Education ID card. No one under the age of 18 years may rent/lease a PWC. It is illegal for the owner of a PWC to knowingly allow a person under 14 years of age to operate a PWC. |
